Description

Perfectly imperfect, irresistibly priced.

Even our best‑selling silhouettes have the occasional cosmetic quirk. Metalbird Seconds are the same original designs you love, offered at a sharp discount due to minor visual imperfections—think light scratches, small imprints, over‑sanding, tiny dents, or early patina bloom. Once installed outdoors and the patina develops, most marks fade into the character of the piece. Less waste for us, major value for you.

Big savings... the same artwork at a friendlier price
Premium material... 1/8‑inch (3 mm) Corten steel built for decades outside
Sustainability win... extending product life reduces manufacturing waste
Unique character... each piece carries its own subtle story
Same easy install... taps in with a hammer like any Metalbird

Available variants (Seconds):

  • Cardinal — vibrant backyard tribute; minor surface scuffs or early patina bloom.

  • Great Horned Owl — striking night‑garden profile; light scratches or subtle edge texture.

  • Hanging Bird Feeder — functional + sculptural; slight material imprints or tiny bends that don’t affect hanging.

  • Laysan Duck — serene waterside vibe with conservation story; light sanding marks or faint dents.

  • Manumea (Little Dodo) — powerful, collectible silhouette; small irregularities or patina variation.

  • Acadian Flycatcher — slim woodland form; fine surface scratches or minor edge burrs.

  • Balearic Shearwater — limited conservation release; minor over‑sand or profile flash clean‑ups.

Install like any Metalbird—quick and secure.

  1. Choose your perch – sturdy fence post, tree trunk, or pergola beam.
  2. Hold at a slight downward angle – for a lifelike stance and better grip.
  3. Seat the stake – place the thick end against the wood and tap with a hammer.
  4. Check stability – firm, with no wobble; adjust angle if needed.
  5. Optional touch‑up – if an edge feels rough, lightly smooth with fine‑grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: Early patina may shed a little residue—install over soil or mulch, or seal pale stone nearby if you’re particular about surfaces.

What qualifies a bird as a “Second”?
Small cosmetic imperfections—light scratches, material imprints, over‑sanding, minor bends, textured edges, or early patina bloom—but full structural integrity.

Will the flaws be obvious once installed?
Usually not. As Corten forms its protective patina outdoors, most marks blend in and become part of the sculpture’s character.

Is the warranty the same?
Seconds are final sale and not eligible for returns or exchanges. Structural quality is still held to our high standard.

Can I use discount codes or promos?
No—discounts, free minis, and promo codes do not apply to Seconds products.

Which variants are available?
Availability changes quickly. Current options include Cardinal, Great Horned Owl, Hanging Bird Feeder, Laysan Duck, Manumea, Acadian Flycatcher, and Balearic Shearwater (Seconds). Stock is limited and may vary by region.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.

what’s the word on the bird?
