MEET THE BIRD

A little family from the lake

Some birds bring a whole place with them. This loon carries a chick on its back, and perhaps a memory of coffee on the dock or a cottage weekend that ended too soon. Set it against an open view and let that little family become part of your own patch.

MADE FOR OUTDOORS

Steel that changes with the seasons

Corten is weathering steel. Outdoors, the surface develops a rust-coloured patina, so the finish changes with the weather and the spot you choose. It arrives as unpainted steel; the colour and pace of weathering vary. Leave it unpainted and keep rust runoff away from pale paving, walls and other surfaces that could stain.

INSTALLATION

Choose a perch. Tap it in.

Choose sound timber on a sturdy post or wooden planter rim, with permission to install. Hold the mounting spike against the wood at a slight downward angle. Use gentle, controlled taps with a hammer or mallet on the thick end of the mounting spike, never the bird. Check it is secure before letting go. Keep sharp edges away from children and paths. Adults should handle installation.

READY TO GIVE

A small box with someone in mind.

For the cottage host, the lake swimmer, or the person who counts the days until the dock goes back in. The adult and chick are one connected piece, packed in a large gift box.
